YAML ↔ JSON Converter
Convert YAML to JSON or JSON to YAML, both ways.
Last updated August 26, 2026
About this tool
YAML is the preferred format for Kubernetes manifests, Docker Compose files, and CI/CD pipelines because it's more human-readable than JSON, but tooling and APIs often still expect JSON. This tool converts in both directions — YAML to JSON for feeding into scripts, or JSON to YAML for writing config files — with a one-click swap to flip direction using your current output as the new input.

|---|---|---|
| Comments | Supported (#) | Not supported |
| Syntax | Indentation-based | Braces and brackets |
| Readability | Higher for humans | Higher for machines |
| Common use | Config files, CI/CD | APIs, data interchange |
Frequently asked questions
Why does my YAML fail to convert?
YAML is strict about indentation — mixing tabs and spaces, or inconsistent indent widths between sibling keys, is a common cause of parse errors.
Are comments preserved when converting JSON to YAML?
No — JSON has no concept of comments, so converting JSON to YAML and back will not roundtrip any comments you add to the YAML.
Can I turn this JSON into a spreadsheet?
Convert YAML to JSON here first if needed, then use the JSON to CSV Converter to flatten it into CSV.
