CSV to JSON Converter
Convert CSV data to JSON, with or without a header row.
Last updated August 26, 2026
About this tool
CSV is the standard export format for spreadsheets and databases, but most APIs and JavaScript code expect JSON. This tool parses CSV — handling quoted fields and commas inside quotes — and converts each row into a JSON object keyed by the header row, or a plain array of arrays if your CSV has no header.
Code examples
The second line (where shown) is the inverse operation.
| Language | Code |
|---|---|
| JavaScript (Papa Parse) | Papa.parse(csv, { header: true }) |
| Python (pandas) | pandas.read_csv('file.csv').to_json(orient='records') |
| Node.js | csv-parse or csv-parser packages |
Frequently asked questions
How does this handle commas inside a quoted CSV field?
The parser follows the standard CSV quoting rules — a field wrapped in double quotes can safely contain commas, and a literal double quote inside a field is written as two double quotes ("").
What happens if my CSV rows have different numbers of columns than the header?
Missing values are filled in as empty strings so the resulting JSON objects still have every header key.
