About this tool

Markdown is a lightweight markup syntax used for README files, documentation, blog posts, and chat apps, converting plain-text symbols like # and ** into headings and bold text. This tool renders your Markdown into HTML live, side by side, so you can check formatting before publishing — useful for previewing how a README will look on GitHub or a post will look on a blog.

Common Markdown syntax

SyntaxRenders as
# HeadingHeading (h1–h6, more # = smaller)
**bold**bold text
*italic*italic text
`code`inline code
- itembullet list
[text](url)link
> quoteblockquote

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same Markdown flavor GitHub uses?

It uses the CommonMark-compatible `marked` parser, which covers standard Markdown (headings, lists, code, links, quotes) but not GitHub-specific extensions like task list checkboxes or auto-linked issue numbers.

Is the rendered HTML safe if I paste Markdown from an untrusted source?

Yes — the output is sanitized with DOMPurify before being rendered, which strips scripts and other unsafe HTML.

I don't have any Markdown handy — can I get some sample content to try this with?

Yes — use the Lorem Ipsum Generator with the Markdown output format to generate sample paragraphs or list items, then paste them here to preview.

How do I fix the capitalization of a heading before writing it in Markdown?

Use the Case Converter to convert your heading text to Title Case or Sentence case, then paste the result after the `#` in your Markdown.

Can I turn a spreadsheet into a Markdown table here?

Paste the generated table here to preview it, or build the table first with the CSV to Markdown Table Converter.
